Island was named by the pirates who frequented the Gulf Coast and held
hostage beautiful women giving the island its
name Captiva. North Captiva was part of Captiva Island
until a hurricane in 1921 created Redfish Pass, separating the 2
islands. The balance between man and nature is an island phenomenon. Birds, tortoises and other wildlife abound. Some of the best shelling in the US is on our beaches. (Ask about the best shelling locations when booking the house.) Good fishing from the beach or charter boat. Captivating sunrises and sunsets. Free kayacking in the back bay. Excellent
for birdwatching especially at low tide.
